On September 22nd, 2024, Currow Co Kerry lady Eileen McDonnell organised a climb of Irelands highest mountain Carrauntoohil to raise funds for two charities in memory Phil Dunne.

Her selected charities were the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Kerry Hospice and she wanted to do the climb in memory of her friend Phil from Maglass  Ballymacelligott who passed away from Motor Neurone Disease on the 17th September 2023.

A total of 33 people undertook the challenge including Phils family, relatives, neighbours and friends. It was particularly special for Eileen to organise the climb as she wanted to raise much needed funding for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and because she was Phil’s carer as well.

The family of the late Phil Dunne thanked both the IMNDA and the Palliative Care Unit of University Hospital Kerry for all their kindness and care shown to Phil.

Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association Ambassador Christy Lehane accepted a cheque for €7,210.75 in O’ Riada’s bar Ballymacelligott on Friday 11th October 2024 and he thanked everybody involved in the fundraising effort all for a great cause.
