It is with incredible sadness that we at the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) bid farewell to our beloved former CEO and dear friend, Lillian McGovern. Lillian’s family – her husband Declan, daughter Stephanie, son Keith, adored grandchildren Bobby and Lilly and brother Brian, are at the forefront of our thoughts today.
It’s hard to know where to begin when describing our wonderful friend and colleague. But it’s undeniable that Lillian’s untiring dedication, compassionate leadership, and remarkable strength of character have left an indelible mark on the IMNDA and all whose lives she touched.
Lillian led the IMNDA with a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Her vision and direction played a pivotal role in advancing our mission, ensuring that those living with MND had access to vital resources, support, and care. Under her leadership, the IMNDA grew, both in the services it offered and in the hearts of the community it served. Her legacy is one of kindness and compassion.
Her work went far beyond the office; Lillian connected with families on a deeply personal level. She understood their struggles, and her empathy shone through, always ready with a listening ear, an encouraging word, and a solution to even the most challenging obstacles. Her ability to lead with both heart and head also made her a true inspiration to all who had the privilege of working with her and she was a friend to all, caring for other people’s happiness always, often ahead of her own.
Lillian was unstoppable; despite her own battles she continued to act as a voice for people with MND, raising awareness and making a difference. Her contributions to the IMNDA are immeasurable, and her impact will resonate for years to come.
Our most heartfelt condolences go to her family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with you all.
Lillian, your light will never fade from the IMNDA and you will continue to inspire us as we carry on the work that was so dear to you.
Rest in peace, Lillian. Thank you for everything and you will always be in our hearts.
All your friends at the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA)
