United for Dave

11 Feb 2025

Dave Hughes is a former Deputy General Secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO). He previously worked for IMPACT and CPSU (both now Fórsa) and SIPTU, and was a member for some years of the Executive Council of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. He is a well-known and popular figure in the trade union movement, and continues to serve the interests of workers in his capacity as a Board member of the Health & Safety Authority. He has also been living with Motor Neurone Disease for the last number of years.

He generously agreed to lend his name to this fundraising effort last September 2024 to support the fantastic work of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.

A number of friends and colleagues from the trade union movement came together to organise a cycle event on 28th September 2024. Starting from the offices of the INMO, those taking part did a loop of 100k into Co. Meath and back, taking a route through Clonsilla where Dave has been a major contributor to his beloved local community, not least through his work with 92.5 Phoenix FM, a community radio station that provides a voice for Dublin 15.

The incredible ‘United for Dave’ 100KM cycling event organised by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation & Forsa raised the FANTASTIC sum of €53,494.
A huge thanks for raising this incredible sum and a huge thanks to everyone who took part. Dave is pictured below presenting the cheque to the IMNDA Team.
