Cycle and Walk for John

Now in its 2nd year the Cycle and Walk for John is in memory of John and to raise funds for IMNDA.

Cycle

The event consists of a 70KM Leisure Cycle around Kildare. The cycle will be kept at a leisurely pace (c.20-23Kph) and a single peloton. The coffee stop will be approximately half way on the cycle route. Tea, Coffee and a scone will be provided. There will also be toilet facilities at the coffee stop. Cyclists should carry a water bottle with them for filling at water stops along the way. The cycle will depart at 10am from St. Mary’s GAA, Leixlip.

Walk

For the non-cyclists there is a 5KM walk through the village of Leixlip and into St Catherine’s Park. Both events start and finish at St Mary’s GAA Club, Leixlip at 12noon. Refreshments will be provided in the GAA Club afterwards.

General Event Info

Safety First – A hard shell helmet is compulsory for every cyclist!

Cyclists don’t require an expensive bike, but it must be well maintained and in roadworthy condition. There will be a motorcycle marshal and cycle marshals on the day. The roads will remain open at all times and in the interest of safety, cyclists must obey the instructions of the marshals and other event personnel on the day. Please also obey the rules of the road and be aware of other road users at all times. We aim to keep the group together during the entire cycle. In order to manage that cyclists are asked to ride 2 a breast unless otherwise directed by the marshals.

For the walkers it is important that suitable walking shoes are worn as this walk is not suitable for high heels. Walk will start at 12 noon. It will take approximately 1 1/2 hrs. Registration can be done online by using link (you can fill this in) Registration also available on the morning of walk but please allow time for this.

Registration

Registration for the cycle costs €40 and for the walk €20. This includes the Cycle, Insurance cover, Coffee Stop and refreshments afterwards in the GAA Club.

Please ensure that you include your name and whether you will CYCLE, WALK or DONATE( in your message) if registering online. There is also a facility to donate an additional amount to IMNDA if you wish. You can register and pay on the day of the Cycle and Walk if you wish. You can also register for either event on the day

Facilities

Event will start and finish at Leixlip GAA, St Mary’s GAA Club, Green Lane, Leixlip, Co. Kildare. Eircode W23 A564. Limited free car parking is available in the Club grounds for those driving to the start point. Refreshments will also be provided at the GAA Club after the event.

Weather Conditions

This is mid-summer so pleasant weather should be the order of the day. However cyclists would be well advised to bring some wet weather gear. In the event of inclement weather the organisers have the right to alter the route.

Broom Wagon

Broom wagon will be provided on the day for cyclists who get into trouble. If you do get in to difficulty, please inform a marshal or event personnel immediately.

Insurance

All Cyclists registered with Cycling Ireland (CI) are covered by Cycling Ireland for this event. However all cyclists will need to register on the morning of the event to avail of the cover. Cycling Ireland members should bring their cycling Ireland Membership Number with them on the day of the event. There is a charge for Non CI members to avail of the cover. This is included in the €40 Registration fee. If you have an incident on the day, you should contact Cycling Ireland no later than 21 days after this incident.

Start/Finish Area

The Cycle and walk will start & finish at St Mary’s GAA Club grounds. Refreshments and toilet facilities are available at finish area.
