Fundraiser in Ballyvourney

Congratulations to Conor Kelleher from Dripsey County Cork for organising a Ceili in Ballyvourney County Cork on September 10th, 2022, with proceeds going to two charities very close to their hearts namely, The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and The Mercy Hospital Foundation in Cork.

Conor and his wife Mary knew of people diagnosed with MND and they also had a friend whose little girl was helped greatly by her attendances at the Mercy Hospital, so they decided to divide the proceeds between the two charities. Conor stated that he was full of admiration for Charlie Bird and all the fundraising he had done for the IMNDA despite his failing health, and he was delighted to donate half the proceeds to this charity.

On Thursday 29th September 2022 cheques for €3,000 each were presented to both charities by Conor and Mary Kelleher at the Abbey Hotel in Ballyvourney. Ambassador Christy Lehane was delighted to accept the cheque on behalf of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and thanked both Mary and Conor for organising the fundraising event and stated that the number of people living with Motor Neuone Disease now in Cork is 42, while Kerry has a total of 16 which is the highest in the country per capita. Munster has 126 MND patients, and currently there are more than 400 people living with MND in Ireland.

The Association relies on the generosity of the public for 85% of its funding and the IMNDA’s ethos is to sustain a high quality of life, enabling people with MND to live as active, independent citizens within their community and to remain in their homes with their families for as long as possible,

Finally, Mr Lehane thanked Conor and Mary and his extended family for organising a fantastic event. He thanked all who supported the event thus creating awareness about this devastating illness and generating vital funds for families affected by MND.

On behalf of the IMNDA, we would like to say thanks very much for Mary & Conor for raising awareness of MND as well as raising this wonderful sum which will help provide support to people living with MND. We would also like to thank Christy for accepting the cheque on our behalf.
