Patients Deserve Better Campaign 2023
March 1st, 2023
Patients Deserve Better Campaign is a nationwide campaign led by the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) in collaboration with 22 neurological charities. The campaign is calling for a community neuro-rehabilitation team to be established in each of the 9 community health organisations around the country.
There are currently only two community neurorehabilitation teams in Ireland, despite nine teams being required. This means that only 15% of neurological patients in Ireland have access to teams that provide vital services to support their care. These multidisciplinary teams provide crucial specialist therapy supports including physiotherapy, speech and language and occupational therapy as well as neuropsychology for adults with neurological conditions living in the community.
Last week there was an online launch to highlight the ongoing lack of a community neurorehabilitation team for HSE Community Health Organisation area (CHO) 4: CHO Area 4: Kerry, North Cork, North Lee, South Lee, West Cork.
Denis Fitzgerald who is living with MND in the Cork area participated on behalf of IMNDA and gave his experience of health services in Cork.
