Lose your voice so others can be heard
In 2015 we started the Sponsored Silence #Voice4MND campaign to highlight the fact that some people living with MND will be affected with speech difficulties, while others may even lose their voice completely. We wanted people to experience - even for a short while - what it is like to lose your voice to increase awareness about the impact of MND.
We challenged people to stay silent for a minimum of 30 minutes - but most did longer. Some even gave up their voice for over 24hours! We then asked people to share their challenge with us by posting a photo of themselves on Facebook with our #Voice4MND banner. Will you give up your voice so that others can be heard and go silent at work, home or school to raise funds and awareness for families affected by Motor Neurone Disease?
Over the years the campaign has gone from strength to strength, and has raised over €400,000 for people living with MND. This year we want our sponsored silence to make a big impact. We need your help to do this during the month of June.
Taking part is easy – REGISTER NOW! All you have to do is to pick a day and a duration to stay silent for a minimum of 30 minutes to experience, for a short time, what it would be like to lose your voice. Imagine one hour, imagine one day, imagine one week without your voice.
Then maybe think how would you communicate if you had no voice – by app, by pen and paper?
Help us spread awareness by sharing your fundraising page on social media using #Voice4MND. Nominate friends, colleagues and families to join in too!
