MND Nurses

Continuity of care is crucial when it comes to managing a complex condition such as Motor Neurone Disease.

That’s why our MND nurses are so important. They act as a link between our clients and families and community healthcare professionals, consultant neurologists and the services team in IMNDA.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to MND so having our nurses out in the community, helping to co-ordinate care for our clients is paramount.

Fidelma, Louise, Maire, Kathryn, Aine and Charlene attend MND hospital clinics, liaise with healthcare professionals such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists and ensure palliative care supports are put in place when needed. They help our clients and carers navigate their way through what is a very complex disease.

The Association receives no state or HSE funding towards this invaluable service. It is funded entirely by the generosity of people like you all around the country.

In 2023, our nurses carried out 1,070 home visits to our families across the communities of Ireland.

Please take part in Walk While You Can this year and help maintain this vital service.

“It was a godsend to discover the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association. Within an hour of sending an inquiry I was on the phone to a member of the Association and a nurse visited two days later.”
